John Glynn
I’ve been fly fishing since 1990 and tying since 1994. Over the years I’ve been fortunate to learn from and be influenced by some of the finest tyers in the business, and I would be delighted to have the opportunity to share some of my patterns and tying techniques with visitors at BFFI.
By way of introduction, I began coarse fishing in my early teens before moving over to fly fishing in 1990. In 1994, after being given an old Sunrise vice by a kind gentleman I met on the River Wye, I was keen to learn and attended numerous workshops, demonstrations and classes hosted by some of the finest tyers in the business, including Paul Little, Oliver Edwards, Philip White and Chris Helm to name but a few.
I first met Oliver at the 1995 Grayling Society AGM in Preston, and he became my greatest influence and mentor, as well as a great friend. I primarily fish for river trout and grayling across Cumbria, Yorkshire, Lancashire and Derbyshire, with an occasional trip to Iceland and Bosnia.
Now semi-retired, I work two days a week at Mallon & Green in Bakewell, having previously worked in the fishery office at Ladybower Reservoir.
