My name is Emma Chapman, I am 34 and live in south west Wales. I have two young kids, a smallholding with far too many animals, and permanently muddy boots.

I have been fishing since I was about 9, my Dad taught myself and my younger brother to fish, but only I got ‘hooked’. My Dad grew up fishing the banks of the Usk in Brecon as a boy, taught by his Uncle, who also taught him to tie flies. As I regularly went fishing with my Dad, he eventually got tired of me pinching his flies (and inevitably stuffing most of them up a tree), so he taught me to tie when I was about 20. I started with a secondhand Scottie vise, and tied my first pheasant tail nymph.

The flies I tie are mainly targeted at trout and grayling, as I mostly fish stillwaters and the small local rivers when I’m able. I prefer to use natural materials where I can, imitating natural food sources with the aim to catch fish, not fisherman.

I set up my Instagram page, Pengwyn Flies  in 2015, and enjoy sharing my ties, successes and failures, with everyone kind enough to follow. Along my journey through the fly fishing and fly tying world, I have met and become part of the most incredible community of people, alot of whom I am lucky enough to call friends.
