The Premier Fly Tying Show

Allan Hutton

Allan Hutton

My journey into fly tying began at my local angling club’s fly-tying nights, where I was introduced to the craft of tying traditional wets for the local reservoir and the Highland Lochs of Scotland. Over the years, fuelled by curiosity and dedication I evolved into an accomplished fly-tyer. I then did a few demos for the club and helped others who were learning the craft of fly-tying.  I have a great passion for the rich history and traditions of Loch style wets, North Country Spiders and Clyde Style flies, I also embrace innovation by incorporating modern materials and infusing my own variations and twists into traditional patterns

In 2023, I was invited to demonstrate my fly-tying at the Scottish game Fair which was an immense pleasure and a privilege to participate in. Im  very pleased to once again be invited to tie at at the Scottish Game Fair in July this year/2025.

Ive been very fortunate to be invited to do live stream fly-tying demonstrations for Ludlow Fly-tying club, this went live and was very well received and is now available on you tube.

With over 30 years of membership at the Airdrie and District Angling Club I recently joined the Cobbinshaw Angling Club in West Lothian. My passion for fly fishing and tying runs deep. I frequent Hillend Loch and Cobbinshaw Reservoir regularly during the season as well as frequents days on the River Clyde too and have a real passion for seeking out wild brown trout in the breathtaking landscapes of the Scottish Highlands and Islands

Attending BFFI 2027 would not only be a tremendous opportunity for me to showcase my skills and share insights with fellow enthusiasts but also a chance to learn from and engage with experts in the field. I am eager to immerse myself in the vibrant atmosphere of the event, exchange ideas, and gain inspiration that will further fuel my passion for fly tying.

I am confident that my dedication, experience and enthusiasm make me a worthy candidate for nomination to attend the BFFI. I would be immensely grateful for your consideration and support in this endeavour.

I express my enthusiasm for flyfishing and fly-tying through the pages of my Hillend Dabbler blog [which I first started in 2009] as well as my other Hillend Dabbler Social Media pages.
