The Premier Fly Tying Show

Tomas Skoging

Tomas Skoging

Tomas Skoging is a Swedish fly tyer and passionate dry fly fisherman with a
lifelong background in visual creativity, graphic design and filmmaking.

His approach to fly tying begins with the natural insect rather than an established pattern. By studying its proportions, silhouette, posture and movement, Tomas develops his own interpretations at the vise – constantly experimenting with materials and construction techniques to find a balance between realism, impression and function.

This visual and experimental approach is at the heart of his tying. The ambition is not necessarily to reproduce every detail of an insect, but to understand what makes it recognisable – both to the human eye and, ultimately, to a trout.

His greatest passion is sight fishing with dry flies, particularly on the clear, slow running rivers of Northern Scandinavia.
