Adrian Southall
I’m Adrian Southall, and I’ve spent nearly 40 years honing my skills in fly fishing, primarily in the stunning rivers of Derbyshire and Staffordshire. My passion for this sport has given me a deep understanding of aquatic ecosystems and the techniques that elevate the experience.
I began fly tying during the 2020 lockdown, which sparked a new creative journey for me. Since then, I’ve not only refined my skills but also built a strong social media following, where I share my insights and creations with an engaged community of fishing enthusiasts.
As a dedicated river fisherman, I particularly enjoy dry fly techniques, both on the water and at the tying bench. My tying style emphasizes natural materials and is influenced by classic patterns, yet I take pride in developing my own unique approach. My interest in entomology allows me to appreciate the intricate connections between insects and their habitats, enhancing my effectiveness in choosing the right patterns.
Among my favourite flies to tie are the red quill, inspired by Art Flick, and the classic Tupp’s Indispensable. I look forward to sharing my passion with others and continuing to grow in this rewarding craft.
