The Rhyl & St Asaph Angling Association
Initially six fly tying evenings were held last November and December. They were a success and continued on Tuesday’s in the New Year – the last one before the trout season starts on the rivers will be on February 26th.
They are held every Tuesday in Trefnant Village Hall, near St Asaph, North Wales, 7 – 9pm and are open to all including non-members and everyone from beginners to experts. There is no charge and we provide tea, coffee and biscuits. We have enough basic spare kit to cater for anyone new to fly tying, but have been offered a grant to purchase more kit this year. We also had excellent support from Foxons of St Asaph our local game fishing shop. Our angling association has a good number of junior members who fish regularly and we are hoping to get more of them interested in fly tying and perhaps also link this with our Intro to Fly Fishing days.
We will be holding regular fly-tying sessions again after October 17th which is when our river close season starts and these will continue through the close season. Our experienced tyers have enjoyed passing on their knowledge and two of our junior members have recently caught rainbow trout on flies they tied at one of our sessions.
