GAIA is one of the largest game angling organisations in Europe with nearly 400 paid up members at the beginning of 2012. We offer a comprehensive professional development program for fly-fishing, fly-tying and casting instructors with a strong mentoring and assessing team, which is trained and promoted from within our own ranks. This is supported by a number of organised regional workshops and development days, which are held at locations throughout the UK and Ireland during the game fishing season. We also provide casting clinics for adults and children at most of the major country fairs.

Amongst our members we possess a wealth of knowledge on all modern methods of fly-fishing and many of them work full time as fishing guides and casting instructors, whilst all of the members have an avid interest in game fishing of all sorts including saltwater, reservoir, still-water, and moving water for species such as trout, grayling, bass, pike, bone-fish, steel-heads and salmon.

We focus on three skill disciplines; single-handed casting, double-handed casting and fly-tying. Each of these has two levels of competence the GAIC (Game Angling Instructors Certificate) and APGAI (Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructors), which are internally assessed to very strict guidelines. It is possible to join GAIA as an Associate Member, which is the starting point for the learning path that leads to an instructor qualification and ultimately to becoming a mentor or an assessor.
